CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE
Caught in the Middle is an 8-week psychoeducational support program for adults and children aged 7-12 who are experiencing high-conflict family separation or co-parenting situations. Our dedicated team aims to provide participants with valuable tools and support to help them navigate these difficulties.
Who participates
Caught in the Middle is a program for parents, step-parents, and their children aged 7-12. Adults and children attend separate groups. Former partners and co-parents can participate at the same time if one parent attends online.
Dates & times
Caught in the Middle runs three times a year with intakes in January, April, and September. Groups meet once a week for 8 weeks on a designated weekday evening from 5:30-6:30 PM. Call our office to register for the waitlist today!
Location
Caught in the Middle groups meet in person at our office located in the Victoria Social Innovation Centre at 1004 North Park Street, Victoria BC. There is an online group for parents, but children must attend in person.
Transportation
Family Services of Greater Victoria does not facilitate discussions between
co-parents or intervene in issues related to the weekly transportation of children to their groups. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

PROGRAM FEES
Fees are per participant and the same for both adults and children. They are calculated on a sliding scale based on your net annual household income:

Family Services of Greater Victoria is a non-profit agency, and fees are designed to cover the cost of running our programs and services. Any surplus funds are reinvested into our agency and utilized to continue providing low-cost counselling and legal information to families in need. We are grateful for your support.

Can children attend the program without a parent or caregiver?No. At least one parent or caregiver must attend the program in order for children to be registered.

Can parents or caregivers attend the program without their children?Yes! We welcome parents who wish to participate without their children.

Does the program require consent from both parents in order for children to participate?While Family Services of Greater Victoria only requires consent from one legal guardian, you may need to obtain consent from your child(ren)'s other parent if this is stipulated in your parenting agreement. While the law does not require us to obtain consent from both guardians, we ask that you notify your child(ren)'s other parent of their participation in the Caught in the Middle program.

How do I sign up for the program?You can register for our waitlist by calling our office at 250-386-4331 and leaving your name and email address. Our Caught in the Middle coordinator will reach out to you with more information via email when it is time to start the intake process.

What does the intake process look like?You will be contacted by the Caught in Middle coordinator via email prior to the program start date with a link to our online intake form. If you are accepted into the program, you will be asked to sign consent forms and pay your program fee.

What can I expect from the group?You can expect to be part of a small group of 6-8 adults in a safe and confidential environment where members share their experiences, insights, and self-reflections, and provide each other with emotional support. The program aims to equip participants with knowledge and practical guidance to help navigate the challenges of high-conflict co-parenting and/or family separation.

What can children expect from the group?Children can expect to be in a small group of 4-6 other children around their same age. They will have the opportunity to make new friends, engage in fun and interactive activities, learn and practice skills for emotional regulation, and express their feelings in a safe and supportive environment.
